News & miscellaneous

BMBF call for proposals "Computational Life Sciences"

The BMBF call for proposals "Computational Life Sciences" is still open until May 27, 2021. Focus of the call is on "AI methods for infection research". It is not limited to viral pathogens. More information (in German) can be found at <https://www.ptj.de/computational-life-sciences> and <https://www.bmbf.de/foerderungen/bekanntmachung-1552.html>.

Computer simulations are patentable in principle

The European Patent Office (EPO) recently decided that even pure computer simulations can develop a "technical effect" and thus are patentable in principle. To this end, they would have to advance the state of the art and ensure an inventive step. More information on this decision can be found at <https://www.epo.org/law-practice/case-law-appeals/communications/2021/20210310.html>.
